FAQ

Pytania, które naprawdę nam zadają.

What does PFAS stand for and how do you say it?
PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. It is commonly pronounced 'PEE-fass'. It refers to a large family of thousands of synthetic chemicals, not a single ingredient, which is part of why regulation and testing are complicated.
What are the 2024 EPA drinking-water limits?
In 2024 the EPA finalized its first national, legally enforceable drinking-water standards for several PFAS. The agency set limits of 4 parts per trillion for PFOA and for PFOS individually, with additional limits for several other PFAS. Public water systems are required to monitor for these compounds and reduce levels that exceed the standards over the compliance timeline.
Can I remove PFAS from my drinking water at home?
You cannot eliminate every trace, but you can reduce levels meaningfully. Filters using activated carbon or reverse osmosis are the technologies most often cited for lowering PFAS, with reverse osmosis generally the most thorough. Look for filters independently certified to reduce PFAS, and follow the replacement schedule, since a spent filter is far less effective. Our water filtration guide walks through the options.
Should I throw out all my nonstick pans?
Not necessarily. Modern nonstick cookware is manufactured differently than older products, and intact pans behave differently than damaged ones. Rather than reacting out of fear, it helps to understand what actually changed. We cover the full picture, including when replacement makes sense, in our dedicated nonstick cookware and PFAS guide.
Is it even worth reducing exposure if PFAS are everywhere?
Yes, in a measured way. Because some PFAS leave the body slowly, lowering ongoing intake can reduce how much accumulates over time. The goal is not a perfectly PFAS-free life, which is not realistic, but trimming the easy, high-impact sources such as filtered water and a few labeling habits. This is harm reduction, not a moral test, and small consistent steps are the point.
